Physics (B.S. or B.A.)

Physics is the most fundamental science, because all other sciences depend on a few basic physical principles.

Physicists discover and study the laws that govern the interaction of bodies in motion. Physicists are employed in a variety of professional positions, from research laboratories to engineering design and development. Their broad background, based on fundamental principles and processes in nature, makes students of physics able to adapt to almost any situation.

Teaching opportunities in the sciences abound. There is currently a shortage of high school physics teachers, and the University of Indianapolis provides a curriculum designed to meet that need. You can earn a B.A. or B.S. in the Science Teaching Major, with your primary area being physics. Supporting areas are chosen from earth-space sciences, chemistry, biology, or mathematics.

Dual Degree Programs

We also offer a five-year joint program with Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. This Physics / Engineering Dual Degree program leads to both a B.S. in Physics from the University of Indianapolis and a B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University at Indianapolis. The department is developing a possible joint program in Computer Engineering.

Our dual-degree program is particularly attractive in that it will give you the breadth of background of a physicist and the practical, hands-on experience that marks an engineer.
